General Information
The Volunteers will be requisitioned for duty on various occasions such as elections, festivals and disaster management.
The members of the civic police, who will be required to have a minimum educational qualification of 8th standard passed, will be trained for 10 days and be given Rs 141 per day as remuneration.
"These people will be enrolled at the thana level and will be taken on no-work no-pay basis. Earlier, for doing duties for maintenance of law and order in elections, religious festivals like Durga puja or disaster management, we used to hire home guards but now we have a trained pool of police volunteers who can be used for this purpose.

Accident cover for civic police, home guards

West Bengal government has decided to bring all its lower-ranked contractual staff working as civic police, home guards, National Volunteer Force (NVF) and group D staff of police under an accident insurance scheme.
The scheme, named “group personal accident policy” will cover around 60,000 staffs working on daily wage basis. According to an official statement, the policy will be launched on September 1, 2012. The policy is optional, and those who will opt for the scheme will have to pay Rs 235 annually.Under the scheme, each victim's family members would get Rs 5 lakh for death case, while for other major injury the victim will be eligible to get from Rs 2.5 lakhs to Rs 5 lakhs.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Residence of the area under the Police Station where they will be deployed.
- Age: Between 20 to 30 years.
Qualification:
- Should have passed Madhyamic stander examination .
- Should have represented at least school/Club level Sports.
- Should not have criminal records against them if any Police Station.
- Should be medically fit.
- 10 days training course at Police Lines
- 1 day repressor course in every month in police Lines
- Traffic Guards.
- Police Station.
- They will assist Police in respective units for traffic management.
- They will assist police in major festivals.
- They will assist police in official work.
- They will assist police regarding unauthorized parking vehicles.
- They will assist police in ensuing public safety.
- Any other duties / responsibilities related to public assistance to be assign by respective e heads of units.
